Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada opened the Controlled Environment Agriculture Growth Pathway Program on Oct. 30, 2026. The programme includes a technology-adoption stream covering automation, robotics, lighting and digital growing tools, plus a rural and northern stream, with project summaries due Dec. 23, 2026.

For greenhouse operators, the eligible list reads like a modernization plan for year-round growing: automate repetitive handling, improve lighting control, and replace paper scouting and climate notes with digital tools that record what the crop actually experienced, row by row and day by day.

The summary due Dec. 23 is not a formality. It is the project, in miniature.

Strong summaries describe a working system, not a shopping list. They show how sensors, lighting, climate control and production records connect, who operates the result, and how success will be measured in yield, labour hours or energy use. That design work is operational intelligence and integration for growers in practice, planned before equipment is ordered so funded technology arrives as one system.

Growers interested in the programme should start the summary now. Pick one production problem, define the technology that addresses it end to end, and write the plan clearly enough to build from. Dec. 23 arrives faster than a growing cycle.
