A Novacap-led consortium including Export Development Canada and BDC Capital has completed its acquisition of OSI Maritime Systems of Burnaby, Novacap announced via Globe Newswire on Nov. 3, 2026. OSI navigation systems support 27 NATO and allied navies, on more than 1,000 warships and submarines.

The release ties the transaction directly to Canada's Defence Industrial Strategy and confirms that OSI intellectual property stays in Canada. A company that began as a navigation specialist is now described, in ownership terms, as sovereign digital-systems capability for the fleet Canada and its allies operate.

Navigation software, in this deal, is treated as a national asset, not just a product line.

That framing matters for procurement. When a capability is named a strategic priority, buyers look harder at ownership, support and where the underlying intellectual property resides. Suppliers of digital systems to defence and public buyers should expect those questions in evaluations, and prepare clear answers on Canadian ownership, support capacity and system integration. KSPACE TECHNOLOGIES follows the same priority in its digital systems integration work for institutional buyers.

Canadian technology firms selling to government should take the signal plainly. Sovereign capability is now stated procurement language. Document where your intellectual property lives, who supports the system in Canada, and be ready to prove both in a bid.
