BreachSense, in its October 2026 ransomware report published Nov. 1, said ransomware groups listed 953 companies on leak sites in a single month, up from the month before, and that Canada ranked third worldwide, with 31 Canadian victims listed. This is not a distant problem arriving later. It is a current, counted one.
A listing is the end of a chain that started much earlier: a stolen password, an unpatched system, a convincing message, or access bought from someone else. By the time a name appears on a leak site, the attacker has usually had time to copy files as well as lock them, which is why paying or refusing is never the real decision point.
The real decision point was months earlier, when someone either did or did not test whether the backups restore, separate the most important systems, and write down who does what in the first hours.
Attackers do not need you to be unprepared forever. They need you to be unprepared once.
KSPACE TECHNOLOGIES helps organizations close that gap with practical managed IT support and readiness work: tested backups, patching discipline, access controls and a response plan people have actually read before they need it.
Do one thing this week: restore one critical system from backup, on the record, and time it. If you cannot, you have found your first project, and it is cheaper to find it now than during an incident.
