Quebec's electricity needs are set to outgrow supply within this decade, Hydro-Québec said in its Electricity Supply Plan 2027–2041, released via CNW on Nov. 3, 2026. The plan projects needs rising by about 60 terawatt-hours, to 240 terawatt-hours by 2041, with possible deficits starting in 2029.

The plan also names the cheapest source of new capacity. Hydro-Québec is targeting 21 terawatt-hours of efficiency savings by 2035, energy that never has to be generated because customers stop wasting it.

The cheapest power plant is the demand you remove.

For large energy users, that target is an instruction. Plants, warehouses and institutions that understand their own consumption in detail, by line, by shift and by process, can cut demand on their own schedule instead of under pressure later. Most facilities already collect much of the data needed; it is simply never assembled into one operating picture.

That assembly is the core of operational intelligence for large facilities, the work KSPACE TECHNOLOGIES does with industrial clients: find where energy and output are lost together, then fix the biggest losses first.

The takeaway for big users in Quebec and beyond: start the efficiency audit now, while it is still voluntary and planned. Cutting demand before 2029 is a project. Cutting it after is an emergency.
